Rather than sleep outside where the temperature will drop to 40 degrees, set up your really small tent inside a barn like this:
Make sure it's in a barn where every little sound made in the middle of the night resonates at 10 times the original sound made.
Try fitting an infant car seat in the really small tent with you, where your infant will only actually sleep in it for 1 hour that night. When you try to put the infant back in the seat after a middle-of-the-night feed, the baby will flail its arms hitting the sides of the seat while making a lot of noise. At that point you will decide not to put the baby back in the car seat.
Every time your infant wakes up (which will be often), feed them in the most uncomfortable position possible. Then when they fall back asleep, don't move for fear they'll make another sound and wake up. Continue to try to sleep in that uncomfortable position until your baby wakes up again (usually less than an hour later). These positions include laying halfway on the therm-a-rest with only partial covering from a sleeping bag. If you're lucky, you won't fall back to sleep because you are so worried the baby's face will get covered by the sleeping bag.
In the morning make sure to change the baby's diaper in the tent, on your sleeping bag, where the baby boy will decide to shoot additional body waste all over his face, your sleeping bag, and the tent.
Make sure that childless couples also set up their tents in the barn so that your baby will wake them up all night too. This is the best way to make and keep new friends.
In the morning be very grateful it's so amazingly beautiful outside the barn because that will make the night before all worth it (maybe).

This post makes me feel better about Zach having to have slept w/ Kate and Addie in the pop-up trailer so long ago :) Sounds like Henry has amazing diaper skills.
You are such a trooper Leash. It doesn't seem to get any better, even Gray sleeps horribly in a tent. But for some reason, it is always fun in the morning to wake up in the tent...even with so little sleep.
I second Andrea's comments that is exactly what I was thinking when I read this story. A freezing cold night, feeding a baby often in strange uncomfortable positions, and having a single friend trying to sleep five feet away. It totally spells fun.
haha...i couldn't have said it better myself! though i beg to differ--my dynamic duo totally outscreamed your henry's sweet baby coos and gaga's. it was fun. tiring. but fun. and of course we can't wait to do it again with the kids, right?!

That was hilarious! You guys are braver than I would be to do any sort of away-from-home trips with Henry, especially if it involves a tent and sleeping bag. Thanks for making me laugh. :)

Henry's expression in the picture is great. He looks very matter of a fact. When they are small enough a cloth's hamper works great.
