Road Trip To Jersey

This weekend we had a great roadtrip to New Jersey to be with Zach's sister Yvette. We went bearing the two scrumptious pies you see pictured. Our neighbor is a pie maker (we think every apartment building should have a resident pie maker) and Alicia traded some accompaniment for some pies (we got the better end of the deal). 

We also took a detour to get some great old-time bikes we got on ebay. The pictures and descriptions will follow in another post. We had to take one more detour in Philadelphia to get cheesesteaks at Pat's King of Steaks. We braved the one-way streets and terrible traffic lights to get these works of art in the sandwich medium. They were so good we talked seriously about trying to learn to make them and opening up our own shop somewhere.

When we got to New Jersey we met Yvette and the kids and my mom at the apple farm and picked a big bag of apples. They planted the apples like grapes in a vineyard and we loved the McCoons which we had never tried before. We also stopped and got apple cider donuts and cider (we all gained about 10 lbs over the weekend). 

Henry loved playing with his cousins. Phoebe (5) was very interested in him and loved taking care of him. He and Heath (who is 6 weeks younger) got acquainted and enjoyed grabbing each others faces. Calvin liked Zach grabbing his feet and spinning him around making Zach dizzy and suffering from many a sore muscle the next day. 

We went to a festival at Washington's Crossing (where ironically Washington crossed the Delaware). We learned how cider was made, how shoes were cobbled and how to make a squirrel stew. We played a game where you use sticks to throw a wooden hoop. Zach's first try hit a two-year old girl in the head with a hoop (see if you can tell which picture captures the moment).

It was a great trip and made us happy to have family so close by.
